UCNS Accreditation Comment Periods Open – Comments Invited

08-20-2024 The United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) invites community stakeholders to provide comments for two proposed accreditation documents.

Proposed Accreditation Common Program Requirements
UCNS fellowship program requirements define the minimum standards with which programs must demonstrate substantial compliance to achieve and maintain UCNS accreditation. The program requirements include two components: common program requirements, which are required of all subspecialties (bold typeface), and subspecialty-specific (regular typeface). All program requirements must undergo regular review, at least every five years. The UCNS Common Program Requirements recently underwent the five-year review process, and the stakeholders are now invited to comment on the proposed revisions that are shown using track changes.

Comments must be emailed to Amanda Carpenter, Senior Manager, Accreditation, at [email protected]. Comments must include the document title for which the comment is being submitted, the page number, line number, program requirement, and comment. Comments received after the deadline date will not be considered.

Proposed Accreditation Neonatal Neurocritical Care Milestones
Milestones are used to evaluate a fellow’s progression through a fellowship training program. Common milestones have been developed for all subspecialties for Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Professionalism, and Systems-based Practice. The subspecialty-specific milestones are developed by task forces of subject matter experts appointed by the subspecialty. Subspecialty stakeholders and the neurology community are invited to provide comments on the Medical Knowledge and Patient Care milestones for the subspecialty of Neonatal Neurocritical Care.

Comments must be emailed to Amanda Carpenter, Senior Manager, Accreditation, at [email protected]. Comments must include the milestone number, the page number, milestone level, and comment. Comments received after the deadline date will not be considered.

Comments due: September 20, 2024

UCNS accreditation is a voluntary process of evaluation and peer review based on UCNS accreditation standards. Fellows who complete a UCNS-accredited program meet the training eligibility requirements to apply for certification in the subspecialty. There are now  more than 230 UCNS-accredited training programs in UCNS-recognized subspecialties
